McKinley + Eric’s Whimsical Garden Wedding
We have a really sweet wedding to share with ya’ll today, this is McKinley and Eric’s whimsical garden party wedding fully of charming pastel tones and pretty flowers. There is a very quaint, playful feeling to their wedding with the gardeny flowers and use of colour that I really love. You really get the feeling that it is a joyous celebration, as weddings should be!
Our bride, McKinley looks absolutely precious! I LOVED her gown, it had almost a retro feeling with the gorgeous, long, sheer sleeves with the ruffled cuff. There is beautiful detailing on her bodice, finished off with a full organza skirt and long veil with cute petal tufts.
To compliment this look we designed her bouquet to have a loose, natural feel with artistic flare. We used a variety of flowers in white, pinks and peach tones, rich in texture for a wildflower, gardeny look. The bouquet recipe included pink astilbe, dried bougainvilla, cosmos, peach and pink dahlias, peach and pink ranunculus, apricot lisianthus, white nigella, white scabiosa, orlaya, peach and pink sweet peas accented with some gunni eucalyptus. We completed the bouquet with trailing ribbons in blush and peach.
McKinley’s bridesmaids looked fabulous as well wearing gorgeous subdued peach-coloured dresses in various styles. The colour feels very romantic to me and the girls look just darling! We made their bouquets to match McKinley’s, slightly smaller in size and without the trailing ribbons.
Eric and the groomsmen looked pretty dashing, too. He was wearing a dusty blue-grey suit and all the groomsmen were in navy, which complimented the colour scheme nicely. For their boutonnieres we created “mini bouquet” styled boutonnieres. Ranunculus clustered with astilbe, sweet peas and some gunni eucalyptus. To set Eric apart, he got a pink ranunculus while the groomsmen got white. Perfection!
CEREMONY
McKinley and Eric’s wedding venue was the Tin Roof Event Centre. Not only do they have a stunning, modern industrial inspired space full of natural light, there is also a scenic outdoor ceremony site. It is a very peaceful space with breathtaking views of Albertan countryside, complete with a beautifully maintained pond.
At the start of the aisle there was a pretty pink sign to welcome guests. We designed a full, one sided arrangement in white, cream, pale yellow, peaches and pinks to sit at the base of the sign. Keeping with the whimsical vibe we used gardeny flowers to match those used throughout the wedding.
The aisle ended in front of the pond, making a very picturesque backdrop. As an alternative to an archway, we designed several arrangements to be weaving their way up through golden stands, as though there are growing up out of the ground. These floral stands framed the happy couple beautifully during the ceremony as they said their vows. To achieve this look we used hydrangea, astilbe, pink baby’s breath, cosmos, peach and pink dahlias, Italian ruscus, pink larkspur, apricot lisianthis, peach ‘Tiffany’ roses, white ‘Playa Blanca’ roses, and pale yellow ‘Candlelight’ roses.
RECEPTION
As I mentioned up above, Tin Roof Event Centre has such a lovely space. It has a contemporary industrial vibe with lots of crisp white and clean lines. It makes for a perfect blank slate for couples to decorate as they wish. You can easily add colour or texture elements to match the aesthetic of your wedding.
For McKinley and Eric we were able to move some of the design elements from the ceremony to the reception. First, the welcome sign and arrangement were moved indoors to highlight the seating chart for their guests. Second, the floral stands were moved in to be a cute and cozy little seating area for their audio guestbook where guests could record messages for the happy couple. This adorable idea is levelled up with the charm of this stylized space!
The reception featured long banquet style tables for the guests to enjoy each other’s company. We did an assortment of budvase centrepieces down the table at varying heights and mixed blooms. Each vase got two types of flowers and a little tuck of greens. Dahlias, astilbe, cosmos, lisianthus, orlaya, ranunculus and sweet peas in pastel tones complimented the styled details of the tables perfectly! Having flowers throughout the room elevated the garden party feel for this delightful wedding!
Lastly, the cake flowers! McKinley had a simple and elegant cake on top of a gorgeous wooden cake stand. A couple clusters of fresh blooms added a festive little pop of colour to complete the cake.
I love this wedding, it feels so full of happiness and love, like a true celebration. It feels refreshing and endearing! I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did, and that it inspired you to incorporate a little playfulness into your special day!
