2025: Calyx’s Year in Review
This year challenged us creatively, professionally and personally in the best possible ways. We stepped into opportunities that stretched our skills and affirmed our love for this work.
One standout moment was being selected as lead designers under Intrigue Designs. We created florals for the Orange Shoot Crawl at Bella Collina in Orlando, Florida. It was such an honour to design within such a prestigious setting.
We were given direction, yet trusted with creative freedom. Our assignment was the “pink room”, and the vision unfolded quickly. We led a talented team of four freelance designers. Together, we had one full day to design and execute everything. That included a tablescape, an arch, a phone booth, and four bouquets with matching boutonnieres. The pace was intense, yet energizing. Most importantly, the collaboration was joyful. Working alongside Sarah from Intrigue was an absolute highlight.
Throughout the year, we also participated in several Fleur de Ville exhibitions across Canada. These included events in Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and Quebec. Each installation pushed us creatively in new ways.
These projects are true passion pieces for our team. They require beauty, storytelling and strong mechanics. Most designs must last for several days while remaining visually striking. As a result, these projects sharpen our skills and fuel our inspiration.
Additionally, we launched something very close to our hearts. This year marked the debut of Calyx Education. We filmed our first educational series for budding floral designers. The classes are now available individually or as a full years collection. Sharing knowledge feels like a natural extension of our work.
A SEASON OF EXPANSION
This year also marked a season of growth behind the scenes. As wedding season expanded, our needs grew alongside it. With an especially busy summer, we added a second design space. This space is dedicated entirely to production and storage. Even with two locations, some weekends pushed us to capacity! Coolers in both spaces were filled edge to edge with florals. Still, the added room has been a welcome and necessary shift.
Wedding season itself was truly remarkable. Our team completed 144 weddings across 65 unique venues. We delivered florals throughout Central Alberta and beyond. Some of those celebrations were extra meaningful, with couples that have been longtime friends of the Calyx team.
There were also moments of joy within our own family. Engagements for two of our Calyx team members, Leigha and Erin! Plans are underway for their extra special weddings for 2026!
This year brought change to our team as well. We said goodbye to a few beloved designers. Alya moved to Calgary and Heather began a new chapter. They are both deeply missed and always part of our story.
Shortly after, we welcomed some new talent. You may have seen Olivia and Zulekha in the shop. They are wonderful designers as well as warm, welcoming presences. Our entire team bring genuine care every day and work so hard!
Above all, we feel immense gratitude. The support from Red Deer and Central Alberta means everything to us. From referrals, to kind words and thoughtful reviews, we feel deeply supported. We love what we do, and are excited to keep bringing you all beautiful blooms! Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and all the best in 2026!!
