Haley + Greg’s Gorgeous Gothic Wedding
We are officially in autumn, what better way to kick things off than with Haley and Greg’s gorgeous gothic wedding! Its fabulous, deep colour palette Is perfect for fall. Their wedding is full of pretty flowers, a very cool archway and gothic touches which are also fun for spooky season.
Haley is a radiant bride; her look is the perfect balance of edgy and also soft & feminine. Her stunning gradient hair took on a flame like quality. I love her magnificent tattoo, the floral element is obviously a win for me, but the colour and artwork make it a brilliant piece! Her traditional wedding gown with soft billowy layers and delicate lace is SO pretty and levels up the romance element.
Her wedding flowers were a fabulous mix of deep, moody tones. Burgundy, plum, with some accents of bronze and ochre. We used dahlias, lisianthus, ranunculus, scabiosa, roses, pops of white with anemones, amaranthus and rich foliages like smoke bush, agonis and Italian ruscus. The style was kept loose and natural without getting too wild. Stems were finished off with a simple satin stem wrap.
Do you spot the Calyx cameo?! One of our favourite little flower friends, Erin was in the bridal party for this one, looking adorable as always!! I love the striking shade of green for their dresses, which complimented Haley’s tattoo, I must say. The gowns look like the convertible style dresses so each of the bridesmaids could wear them in whatever style felt best for them! Their bouquets matched Haley’s both for flowers and style, just slightly smaller in size.
CEREMONY
Greg and his groomsmen all wore boutonnieres to match the bouquets. They featured a burgundy ranunculus bloom accented with bronze amaranthus and agonis, which looked sharp against their dark attire. If you look closely you will see that even their sweet doggo got a little corsage for her collar, adorable!
Speaking of adorable, I love their choice to go with a flower man rather than a flower girl. He did a wonderful job scattering those red rose petals as he walked down the aisle.
The (floral) highlight for their ceremony was definitely their arch! 52 North provided the beautiful, wood hexagonal arch piece. I love that it just adds a bit more dynamic and visual interest than a standard rectangular arch, and the girls did an amazing job giving it the Calyx treatment.
Along with the flowers and foliage we had used in the bouquets, we also added some large, dried black sun palms to the arch. These not only matched their vibe, but also was a great way to add size and volume to create a strong visual base for the designs. The bronze amaranthus complemented the wood of the arch perfectly, and the pops of white from the anemone added depth. I think it turned out so beautiful, and really captured the look and feel this couple was going for!
RECEPTION
52 North was the PERFECT venue for them! The venue is very neutral so you really can do a lot dress up the space to work with your aesthetic. The industrial elements like the metal siding and concrete floors felt like a natural pairing with their gothic theme.
With the beauty of the wood tables, and the minimalist chairs, tablecloths and fussy linens were unnecessary! We kept the table décor simple and elegant, using garlands of greenery to run the length of the table, and accented with clusters of flowers in budvases as well as some candelabras. The paper doilies were made even cuter with little sprigs of Italian ruscus. Gothic touches, like the black or silver skulls nestled amongst the greens, were incorporated throughout the reception.
The arch from the ceremony was used behind the head table during the reception and framed the couple beautifully. They created some fun, dramatic flair with gothic accents, like the crystal candelabras, decorative framed pictures, skulls and black votives.
I love when weddings are a reflection of the couple’s personal style (as it should be!) and feel that Haley and Greg achieved this! Their special day was so unique, and we hope they had as much fun planning it as we did designing it!
