The Mustard Seed’s Seeds of Hope

Recently we were honoured to be the floral sponsor for The Mustard Seed’s 6th annual “Seeds of Hope” celebration at Bo’s Bar and Stage. We love our beautiful city, and love to give back where we can!

I would love to take a moment to share a little bit of information about The Mustard Seed and some of the services they provide.  They provide so much more to our community than simply being a shelter. Their services include providing basic necessities, meals, health and wellness, shelter, spiritual care and employment.

While they most definitely help meet the immediate and basic needs of those experiencing homelessness or poverty, they also meet with their clients to help determine the barriers preventing people from transitioning out of poverty and assessing their individual needs. From this they can determine which programs and services would best meet their needs. They have a huge range of services including counselling, medical doctors/nurses, physio, haircuts, helping obtain ID, employment, income support, housing, community resources, drop in programming and more!

The Mustard Seed also has a school lunch program that is essential to our community’s youth. This program ensures that youth experiencing poverty receive lunches that are healthy and nutritious during the school year.  They make and deliver over 600 lunches every school day to low-income students across 52 central Alberta schools.

The Mustard Seed also helps support unemployed and underemployed individuals, including those challenged by barriers due to homelessness/poverty. They work to help their clients obtain meaningful and dignified work and find financial stability. The Mustard Seed has coaches to help support their clients with skill development, resume building, job search strategies, employment retention assistance as well as access to work attire and/or required protective equipment.

As you can see, they offer a huge amount to our community, so we were so happy to be able to contribute to their celebration! If you would like to learn how you can give to their organization click here, or check out their list of urgently needed items for Red Deer here.

CALYX CENTREPIECES

The Mustard Seed hosted a beautiful gala event complete with dueling pianos, a live painting by the talented Erin Boake and, of course, gorgeous flowers!

There were a few different table sizes, so we designed a couple centrepiece options. All of the designs were in a bold, monochromatic reds for a contemporary look. For the longer rectangular tables, we created 6 ft long garland centrepieces of red baby’s breath and plumosa fern featuring stunning Explorer roses with reflexed outer petals for an extra big, dramatic look.

Other tables got a singular elongated arrangement in a matte black compote styled container. Keeping with the monochromatic red look we used red Explorer roses, burgundy anthurium, burgundy hanging amaranthus along with tucks of red baby’s breath and red plumosa fern.

This style of arrangement was also used on tables a little smaller in size, as well as at the welcoming table and along the bar. Lastly, we designed a stunning arrangement at the base of the podium. Using the same flowers used throughout, we created a more vertical design as though they were growing up out of the stage.

The bold colours and sophisticated designs of the arrangements made for a big, beautiful visual impact for their event. We hope all who attended enjoyed it a ton, and that it was a successful event for The Mustard Seed to continue the amazing work they do!
